CD14isacellsurface-anchoredglycoproteinthatisexpressedpredominantlybymonocytesandtissuemacrophages.CD14associateswithMD-2(LY-96)andTLR4toformareceptorcomplex,whichsignalsspecificallyinresponsetobacteriallipopolysaccharide(LPS)binding.TheCD14/MD-2/TLR4receptorcomplexsignalsviaMyD88,TIRAP,andTRAF6,andultimatelyactivatesNF-κB.CD14alsoexistsinasolubleform,designatedassCD14,whichiscapableofspecificallybindingLPSintheextracellularspace.RecombinantsCD14isa331 aminoacidglycoproteincomprisingtheextracellularportionoftheCD14receptor.ThecalculatedmolecularweightofRecombinantHumansCD14is35.6 kDa.
