Type
Recombinant
Description
BothMIP-1αandMIP-1βarestructurallyandfunctionallyrelatedCCchemokines.TheyparticipateinhostresponsetoinvADIngbacterial,viral,parasiteandfungalpathogens,byregulatingthetrafficking,andactivationstate,ofselectedsubgroupsofinflammatorycells(.g.macrophages,lymphocytesandNKcells).WhilebothMIP-1αandMIP-1βexertsimilareffectsonmonocytes,theireffectonlymphocytesdiffer;withMIP-1αselectivelyattractingCD8+lymphocytes,andMIP-1βselectivelyattractingCD4+lymphocytes.Additionally,MIP-1αandMIP-1βhavealsobeenshowntobepotentchemoattractantsforBcells,eosinophilsanddendriticcells.BothhumanandmurineMIP-1αandMIP-1βareactiveonhumanandmurinehematopoieticcells.RecombinantMurineMIP-1βisa7.8 kDaproteincontaining69 aminoacidresidues,includingthefourhighlyconservedcysteineresiduespresentinCCchemokines.
