IL-12 isapotentregulatorofcell-mediatedimmuneresponsesanditinducesIFN-γproductionbyNKandTcells.Itisproducedbyactivatedmonocytes/macrophagecells,Blymphocytesandconnectivetissue-typemastcells.AmongitsBIOLOGicalactivities,IL-12 promotesthegrowthandactivityofactivatedNK,CD4+andCD8+cells,andinducesthedevelopmentofIFN-γ-producingTh1cells.RecombinantMurineIL-12 isa75.0 kDaheterodimericglycoproteinconsistingofdisulfide-linked35 kDa(p35)and40 kDa(p40)subunits(506 totalaminoacidresidues).
