IGF-BP3isa30 kDa,cysteine-richsecretedprotein.ItisthemajorIGFbindingproteinpresentintheplasmaofhumanandanimals,anditisalsofoundinα-granulesofplatelets.InadditiontoitsABIlitytomodulatetheactivityofIGF-I andIGF-II,IGF-BP3exertsinhibitoryeffectsonfolliclestimulatinghormone(FSH)activity.DecreasedplasmalevelsofIGF-BP3oftenresultsindwarfism,whereaselevatedlevelsofIGF-BP3mayleadtoacromegaly.TheexpressionofIGF-BP3infibroblastsisstimulatedbymitogenicgrowthfactors,suchasBombesin,Vasopressin,PDGF,andEGF.RecombinantHumanIGF-BP3isa28.8 kDaproteinconsistingof264 aminoacidresidues.
