Description

SerumamyloidA proteins(SAA)representsafamilyofapolipoproteinsthatcirculatesinassociationwithhigh-densitylipoproteins(HDL).ThelevelofApo-SAA,normally1–5μg/mlinplasma,increases500–1000foldwithin24 hoursofaninflammatorystimulusand,undertheseconditions,isthemostabundantHDLapolipoprotein.ThehumanSAAgenecodesfora122 aminoacidnonglycosylatedpolypeptide,whichcontainsan18 aminoacidN-terminalsequence.RecombinantHumanApo-SAA1isan11.7 kDaproteincontaining105 aminoacidresidues.
